UPCOURT
WELCOME TO HISTORY

Unprecedented. That is the definition of history. History was made when Barrack Obama was nominated the candidate for the Democratic Party in the United States presidential election of 2008. He became the first, and still is the only black man, to be so nominated by a major political party in that country. History was made when he was elected president of the United States. He became the first, and is, the only black man to ever occupy the White House. History was made when he was sworn in as president. The event set a record attendance for events held in Washington. More than one million people thronged the National Hall, venue of the inauguration, to watch Obama take the oath. That number was unprecedented. Another 37.8 million Americans watched the event from their homes in the US while billions more people watched from across the globe. Again, unprecedented. Again, history. And as Obama stepped up to the podium to say the words, “I, Barrack Obama ... “, misty eyed blacks and whites alike, Latinas and Hispanics held hands, hugged one another and cried as they witnessed the history unfolding right before them. There was dancing on the streets of Kenya where Obama’s father was born and in far away Lagos where Nigerians, in search of hope, have adopted the American president as their own. There was Rumba in the streets of Jamaica and Samba in far away Brazil. In Washington, New York, Chicago and all over the US, whites and blacks waltzed and moonwalked into the night in celebration of this history made in our life time.
People just love history. They love it when records are made, they love it when records are broken. Whether they are direct participants or witnesses to the event or circumstances of history, they just love history.
